 A-Force vs Midnight Sons 19-10-21

Hey folks :)

Decided to do a written battle report, did a couple of video ones lately and as much as they are fun to do, I also really enjoy the written ones I do :)

For this game I decided to play A-Force. I had a lot of fun with SheHulk and co in the early days and it was a nice break from SamSpam. My opponent today is Alistair, a regular opponent in my local meta. Al has been playing a lot of X-Force in the past but recently has turned to Midnight Sons, so we are both keen to see what Blade and his buddies can pull out of the hat. We roll for priority and I won, shocking all present :D

A-Force:

SheHulk, Lockjaw, Medusa, Crystal and Black Cat.

TTCs: Stalwart Determination, Special Delivery, Advanced R&D, Patch Up and Climbing Gear.

Midnight Sons:

Blade, Hood, Dr Voodoo, Strange Supreme and Moon Knight.

TTCs: Brace for Impact, Bats the Ghost Hound, Hood's Gang, Sรฉance and Siege of Darkness.

Game Setup:

Extraction: Struggle for the Cube Continues.

Secure: Intrusions Open Across City as Seals Collapse.

Threat: 19

Deployment:

So I won priority. I feel like we should all take a moment to absorb that....ok, lets continue. :) For this game we stuck with the current crisis selection process. I had the choice of SWORD or the Intrusions. I wanted to try Intrusion as the portal mechanic seemed quite interesting, and its a new scenario. Al chose Cubes which is a solid dependable scenario, but comes at the obvious cost of DoT for cube carriers.

I deploy first with Black Cat on the left, Lockjaw, SheHulk, Crystal and Medusa. Al counter deploys with Dr Voodoo, Moon Knight, Strange Supreme, Blade and Hood.

Round One:

Lockjaw gets the game going. He gets 3 power for being nearby an ally and teleports SheHulk forwards, then walks forward himself and picks up the cube ahead of his position.

Strange uses the Sons leadership to place forward 1 then walks to the centre and grabs the cube there. He then walks diagonally back to the skip and picks up a second cube. Bold play.

Medusa walks forward and grabs a cube, then walks up to the intrusion portal on the right hand side.

Hood walks forward and attacks Medusa, gaining the rapid fire trigger, but only doing 1 damage to the Inhuman Queen.

Black Cat double walks to the portal on the left hand side.

Moon Knight rolls for his random effect and rolls a crit; a move action. Definitely the worst thing he could have rolled for me. He walks forward and attacks Cat with a flurry of crescent blades and dazes her.

Crystal walks and attacks Dr S for 0 damage.

SheHulk walks and uses the middle portal to teleport to the right hand portal. She then throws Strange at Hood. Hood braces the attack and Strange decides not to and takes a damage. SheHulk then attacks Hood doing 1 damage and applying slow, causing him to transform.

Dr Voodoo double walks to the left hand portal then teleports to the centre.

Round ends 3 - 5 to Al.

 Round 2:

During the power phase Medusa, Lockjaw and Moon Knight take 1 damage from Cube Fragments, Strange takes 2 damage.

I decide to play Stalwart Determination during the power phase benefiting all but Lockjaw.

Black Cat shakes off her dazing and decides to go first, just incase it happens again. She uses the left hand portal but fails the interact roll. Al decides to place her in the middle. I was happy with this as either middle or right portal fulfil my needs. I play Advanced R&D to move power from Lockjaw to Black Cat and SheHulk. She walks up to Strange and steals both of his cube fragments then walks away to debatable safety.

Dr Voodoo attacks the Cat and KOs her causing her to drop both cubes. He attacks Crystal for 0 damage, following up by throwing a car at her and she takes 1 damage. He uses the Sons leadership to bump forward and pick up a cube.

Crystal attacks Voodoo in retaliation and causes 3 damage and pushes him away. She then plays climbing gear to move forward and pick up the other cube Cat dropped, finishing by moving away to, again, dubious safety.

Strange teleports SheHulk backwards past Medusa. He then attacks and dazes Crystal, finishing by walking and picking up her dropped Cube.

Medusa uses Royal Decree and moves SheHulk back to almost the same position she was in previously. She attacks and flurrys Hood, causing him to transform again. She then attacks Blade twice pushing him once and causing 3 damage.

Blade moves and attacks SheHulk for 2 damage and Bleed. Al then plays Siege of Darkness. Blade attacks Medusa which SheHulk takes in her stead, taking 2 damage. Voodoo attacks Lockjaw for 3 damage. Blade then heals at the end of his activation.

SheHulk throws Blade back where he came from. She then tries to use the portal and fails, Al places her on the left. She attacks and dazes Moon Knight.

Lockjaw is feeling lucky and teleports to the middle and attacks Strange, dazing him and picking up his cube fragment.

Round ends 9 - 6 to me.

Round 3:

SheHulk, Medusa, Voodoo and Lockjaw take damage from their cubes. The damage also dazes Lockjaw.

Dr Strange gets the round going and attacks Medusa for 0 damage. He then attacks and KOs Crystal, taking the cube fragment and teleporting to safety.

SheHulk continues her abuse of Moon Knight, attacking and KOing him. She then uses the portal and fails, getting placed on the right. She tries the portal again and fails, getting placed back where she started.

Hood walks to the objective, teleports to the middle portal and heals Voodoo. He then portals to the left and attacks SheHulk causing 2 damage, then plays Hoods Gang.

Medusa portals across to the left and attacks Hood, getting the flurry trigger, causing 2 damage and 2 pushes. She then portals to the middle and throws Dr Strange away, finishing by attacking Voodoo for 3 damage and a push.

Voodoo uses Brother Daniel on SheHulk causing her to drop her cube and no longer score the portal. He walks towards her and picks up the cube fragment and shakes Bleed.

Blade walks back to the objective.

Round ends 11 - 11

Round 4:

Medusa and Voodoo take damage from cube fragments, dazing Voodoo.

Lockjaw, once again back in the game, moves and throws the skip at Strange for 2 damage. He then teleports and picks up the cube fragment.

Blade uses the portal to go to the left and picks up both Cube Fragments, then attacks SheHulk for 5 damage.

SheHulk throws a nearby skip at Blade for 0 damage. She then attacks and dazes him, using her other action to clear Bleed.

Hood uses the leadership to bump forward then charges Lockjaw for 0 damage and applies Bleed. He attacks again for 0 damage.

Doctor Strange bumps forward using the Sons leadership. He double attacks SheHulk and KOs her.

*totally forgot to write down Medusa's turn here :( and to top it off I forgot to take a picture :( *

Round ends 13- 13

Round 5:

Lockjaw and Dr Strange take a damage from their cube fragments.

So I am kind of in dire straights. No leader, down to 2 team members and currently drawing on scenario. Medusa attacks and KOs Strange. She teleports to the left and attacks Blade and Voodoo with her spender doing 4 and 2 damage respectively. I was really hoping to get spikey lucky her and take them both out, but sadly no luck.

Voodoo uses Brother Daniel on Medusa, which more or less seals his win. He bumps forward from the leadership ability. He uses the portal to jump to mid and KO Lockjaw taking both of his cubes, clears bleed.

Blade moves and picks up 3 cubes.

Hood moves to mid.

Game ends 13 - 20

*forgot the damn pic again :( *

Bit of a bloodbath of a game! This was my first time with  A-Force in few months and was very rusty. I didn't use special delivery and Stalwart Determination was all but useless really. Also Lockjaw was a bit of an anchor and really should have been Valkyrie or someone else of similar offensive output. The game did, however, remind me of my love of Medusa, she is such a monster. Midnight Sons are an interesting faction to play, and with sufficient reps I feel could be lethally good. Brother Daniel is brutal for trying to play scenario and its all but impossible to get rid of, short of KOing Dr Voodoo. I'm looking forward to playing vs them some more, keen to even try them out myself sometime  :)
