Web Warriors vs Defenders 07/07/21

Hey folks!

I'm still alive! :D Sorry for the huge gap between reports, written and recorded. The house move is proving to be far more stressful than Id like, Adam has a lot on socially just now so between the house, the social and not much time to edit videos lately I've dropped the ball a bit. So today I decided to do a written write up :)

For this game I wanted to try out the new  Amazing Spiderman and my opponent was my friend Alasdair, so a different change in tactics and gameplay from Adams style.

Web Warriors

Web Warriors: Amazing Spiderman (Leader), Venom, Spider man (Miles), Domino, Black Widow.
TTCs: All Webbed Up, Lethal Protector, MedPack, Brace for Impact, Extreme Conditioning.

Defenders

Defenders: Dr Strange with the Soul Stone, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Black Cat, Black Widow.
TTCs: No Matter the Cost, Brace for Impact, Heroes for Hire, Pentagram of Farallah, Warpath.

Objectives: Spider-Infected Invade Manhattan, Infinity Formula Goes Missing.

Game Prep:

So, as I said earlier, for this game I'd be playing vs Alasdair and his Defenders. Alasdair is quite new to the game, relatively, but has picked it up quite quickly and gotten into a good vibe with his Defenders playstyle.

I won priority, so already thats a change when playing vs Adam :D

I deploy first, with Black Widow on the left (hidden in the shadow of the building) followed by Venom, Spiderman, Domino then SpiderMiles. Alasdair counter deploys with Black Cat (on his left) followed by Strange, Cage, Fist then Black Widow.

Round 1:

Before anything happens, in the power phase Alasdair uses Strange to play his Pentagram and deploys two portals, one near the red car at his deployment zone, the other beside the blue car at my side.

Already I am rethinking my plan for this round, the portals allow Al to jump right into my side of the board in round one without any real effort. Spiderman walks to the middle of the board, picks up the objective token then walks back behind the bugle stand.
Luke Cage uses the portal and pops out by the blue car. He walks to the objective and attacks Miles for a monster 4 damage and stagger, he then throws a dumpster at the injured Web Warrior and I use brace to avoid the damage. He then picks up the objective token.
Well, that was upsetting! Miles activates and shakes stagger, medpacks himself then weblines to attack Cage causing him 1 damage and throwing him,
Black Cat moves and picks up token, then moves forward to contest the objective on my side of the board.
My Black Widow, which will be referred to as Widow1 from now on, walks forward and picks up a token, then adjusts position on the objective.
Doctor Strange moves twice to position on his objective.
Domino moves twice to reinforce the objective Miles is sitting on.
Black Widow, which will be referred to as Widow2 for the rest of the report, moved up to contest my objective on the left.
Venom moves and attacks Cage for 1 damage, then pushes him base to base.
Iron Fist moves and picks up the token and secures the objective.

End of turn 3  - 5 to Alasdair.

Round 2:

During the power phase Spiderman and Black Cat get moved due to their Spider Infected tokens. Miles, both Widows, Domino, Black Cat, Strange and Iron Fist all get power from the objectives.

Amazing Spiderman gets the turn started by double attacking Cage and rolling only 1 damage. Miles uses All Webbed Up to slow Black Cat.
Black Cat attacks Domino for 0 damage then moves and uses the portal to jump back to the other side of the board.
Venom double attacks Cage for 0 damage.
Cage attacks Spiderman for 0 damage but does apply Slow and Stun. He then attacks Venom, using Defenders Leadership to change it to Energy, but only causes 1 damage to the symbiote.
Domino walks and jumps through the portal behind Black Cat. She attacks her with a pistol attack, getting the rapid fire trigger, and dazing the elusive enemy. Domino then picks up the token Black Cat drops.
Dr Strange moves and attacks Miles for 3 damage and applies Hex.
Miles web swings over to Strange and applies slow from the Web Warriors leadership. He then attacks Strange twice for 4 damage and throws him away.
Widow2 attacks Widow1 for 1 damage and uses Elusive. Counterstrike from Widow1 causes 0 damage. She attacks again for 2 damage and counterstrike also causes 2 damage.
Widow1 shifts position slightly but I choose not to make any attacks with her.
Fist moves back onto the objective.

Turn ends 7 - 8 to Alasdair.

Round 3:

During the power phase Fist gets moved by the Spider Infected. Both Widows and Miles get power from the objectives.

Miles double attacks Strange but causes 0 damage, then swings onto the objective.
Black Cat takes the objective from Domino, jumps back through the portal again, moves towards Miles, moves again toward the board edge then grapples right into the bottom right hand corner.
Spiderman swings over and double attacks Widow2 but causes 0 damage, but takes 1 damage back from counterstrike.
Dr Strange heals himself for 3 damage, attacks and dazes Miles then moves to the objective.
Venom double attacks Cage for 1 damage, healing himself for 1 damage from the attack.
Fist moves back onto the objective.
Widow1 attacks Widow2 for 0 damage and the returning counterstrike does 0 damage. She attacks again for 1 damage and this time the counterstrike does 2 damage, dazing her and forcing her to drop her token.
Widow2 picks up the token, moves and attacks Spiderman for 1 damage.
Domino double walks over to the objective Iron Fist has been sitting on for most of the game, contesting it.
Cage attacks Venom for 3 damage. Venom uses So Many Snacks but causes 0 damage. Cage attacks again and dazes him.

Turn ends 8 - 14 to Al.

*Pic was taken just after power phase of round 4, so Spiderman, Cat and Fist out of place*

Round 4:

Miles, both Widows, Domino and Fist all gain 1 power from the objectives. Spiderman, Black Cat and Fist get moved from the spider infected tokens.

Spiderman web swings and attacks both Widow2 and Cage and dazes both of them. Both characters drop their Spider Infected tokens.
Fist attacks Domino twice for 0 damage, with one of the attacks being his spender, but does apply the activation token.
Venom pulls Strange M and picks up the token nearby. He then uses Extreme Conditioning and moves away L.
Dr Strange moves and attacks Miles for 3 damage and pushes him away S.
Miles walks and web swings to Cat and uses Venom Blast on her but leaves her on 1 hp, but does drop her token which he picks up.
Black Cat hooks to Miles and takes the token back then double moves to the objective near Al's deployment edge.
Widow1 walks and picks up a token, then walks back to the objective.

Turn ends 12 - 18 to Al.

Well that was a fun game, even if my dice did totally let me down many, many, MANY times. I felt I played badly, especially v Luke Cage. I wasted too much time with Venom and Spiderman trying to take him down when I could just apply slow then leave him behind. He doesnt really do much to worry me with his attacks, but he is a pain to take down in combat, slowing him and leaving him behind would have been a far better tactic. I also kept forgetting that Black Cat can just take the token back from my characters as long as she has the power, I prob should have tried to KO her earlier when I had better opportunities. Alasdair played the portal to jump to my side of the board to force me to play in my board half which worked, I should have just used my mobility to move to his side of the board and score the objectives on his side and contest the ones on my own.

Spiderman in this game was a bit of a let down, but that was firmly due to me playing a bad strategy and having bad dice rolls, as in most other games Ive played him he is a great piece. I also should have been using Miles' Venom Blast more often and forcing tokens off characters. Venom had a bad game, due to Defenders being able to change their attack types to Energy and hammer damage into him. Will keep going with Web Warriors, I have made some changes including introducing Captain Falcon for some interesting mobility. :)
