Avengers (Hulkbuster) vs Midnight Sons 21/09/21
Hey folks :-)
So continuing my momentum I did another two write up from today's games. This is the first of two. I did this write up first as I wanted to show I do win games sometimes haha π
Today I played vs Alistair. I've played Alistair a few times but I think I've only done one write up vs him. I wanted to try Hulkbuster out so I have a 3d proxy til the actual model comes out next month, then I'll buy that. I'm still doing my Sam Spam/Dark Dimension pair which I'll do in the next write up, just wanted to try something different π
So we roll for priority and Al wins.
Avengers (Hulkbusters):
Hulkbuster (Leader), Black Widow, Okoye, Cable and Iron Fist.
TTCs: Bitter Rivals, Patch Up, Heroes For Hire, Avengers Assemble, Advanced R&D
Midnight Sons:
Blade, Venom, Dr Strange, Ghost Rider
TTCs: Patch Up, Bats the Ghost Hound, Deal With the Devil, All You've Got, Siege of Darkness.
Game Setup/ Deployment:
Secure: Mutant Madman Turns City Centre Into Lethal Amusement Park
Extraction: Skrulls Infiltrate World Leadership
Threat: 18
So as before Al wins priority. We decide to try the upcoming new way of doing crisis and do it randomly. Al draws Skrulls, I draw Mutant Madman. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this process yet, I don't know if it's as bad as I think it is, time will tell I guess. I don't really have a plan persay being the first game with Hulkbuster, but I do know I want Cable on the same side as Venom.
Alistair deploys first with Venom, Blade, Dr Strange (behind the tanker), and Ghost Rider (from left to right). I counter with Cable, Hulkbuster, Black Widow, Okoye and Iron Fist (who is just out of the camera shot).
Round One:
Dr Strange moves forward to the Mutant Madman trap and takes it.
Black Widow walks twice to the middle and searches for the Skrull and finds it first attempt.
Venom walls twice and takes the trap for the team.
Cable places himself forward and attacks Venom twice for 5 damage. Okoye then plays Advanced R&D to give a power to Black Widow. Then I play Avengers Assemble to move Hulkbuster, Cable and Iron Fist forward and Black Widow back.
Blade moves up and attacks Cable but causes 0 damage but does apply Bleed.
Hulkbuster moves and attacks Venom for 2 damage and dazes the symbiote. He then moves and flips the trap for me.
Ghost Rider moves and uses the Midnight Sons leadership to place forward 1 and attacks Iron Fist for 0 damage.
Iron Fist attacks Ghost Rider and flips the trap token to me.
In the cleanup phase Ghost Rider takes a damage from my trap.
Round ends 2 - 4 to me.
Round Two:
Venom gets stuck right in and pulls the Hulkbuster in. He attacks twice and Cable throws his shield in twice making Venoms attacks do 0 damage but does apply Bleed. He then throws a nearby terrain piece causing 3 damage.
Hulkbuster returns the favour and throws terrain at Venom and causes 1 damage. He then uses hit and run to do 4 damage to Venom and move back out of range of a So Many Snacks then shakes Bleed.
Blade uses his leadership to teleport forward 1. He attacks Cable for 2 damage and Patches Up Venom for 3 health. He then attacks Cable again for 0 damage.
Black Widow double moves backwards away from combat.
Ghost Rider uses the Midnight Sons leadership to teleport foward 1. He attacks Iron Fist for 1 damage and applies Hex. He then flips the trap token to his side and attacks Iron Fist again for 0 damage.
Cable places backwards toward Hulkbuster and double attacks Venom, KOing him.
Alistair passes.
Iron Fist double attacks and dazes Ghost Rider.
Dr Strange places forward and double attacks Okoye for only 1 damage but does push her away.
Okoye walks over to the trap beside Iron Fist and flips it back to me.
Round ends 4 - 8 to me.
Well that was a fun game. I think Al was on the backfoot from the go with Venom facing down both the Hulkbuster and Cable. Both had long range energy attacks which he really really. doesn't like. Cable buffed the Hulkbuster with his shield a few times which made it very hard to break the big fella down. Overall I thought Hulkbuster was fine. His leadership didn't come up once, I think he might just be better as a team member than a leader, will see with more tests. π
